Father Tom won a gold medal in shooting at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City. Father also coached Olympic Shooting Team and carried the torch at one of the Olympic ceremonies

Took up golf after being urged by his grandfather to play

Only previous U.S. Open was in 2004 (Shinnecock Hills) and he missed the cut

Also played the Gateway Tour and Hooters Tour before playing Nationwide Tour as a rookie in 2000
